Expectations I expect each of my students to work to their fullest potential while in my class. I expect my students to be responsible and respectful to themselves and others. I strive for 100% communication with all of my parents. I expect parents to be involved in the learning process by asking their child about their day, checking folders for work and notes, notifying me of any pertinent matters, discussing child's progress and class work, signing their Friday Folder, and maintaining open communication throughout the year. I know this year will be a successful one if we work together towards the needs of your child. Please don't ever hesitate to contact me on any matter.
Homework Homework is assigned every day. Homework is always due the next day unless otherwise specified. The homework given out is at your child's educational level and they should be able to do it independently. I would like my students to work on their homework to best of their ability, but if they need help, they may ask you or bring it to me in the morning and explain what they are confused on. If parent's "do" the homework for their child, then I do not know if they really know the material. Encourage your child to ask questions in class to avoid the "homework crisis" at home. Grading/Report Cards: 4– Exceeds 3– Meets 2– Approaching 1– Not yet met
Progress Reports are sent home 3 times a year and only reflect the students work/study habits. Report Cards are sent home 3 times a year with grades. Check out this great article: Parents! Don’t Work Harder Than Your Kids on Homework!
Friday Folders Friday Folders are sent home every Friday with each students. In this folder is all your child's graded work from the week. Please review the work with your child over the weekend and return a signed folder AND all work back on Monday. Work is saved at school until the end of each trimester. We use some of it to put together a portfolio for the end of the year.
Projects Projects will be assigned throughout the year in science and social studies. Students will be given adequate time in class to work on them. Each project will have its' own information packet and a rubric attached. Daily Schedule
Birthdays and Treats Birthday treats are NOT allowed in class this year. Also, I ask that if your child is having a birthday party to NOT pass out invitations in school unless everyone is invited. This year there will be monthly birthday celebrations in the cafeteria once/month.
Absences Please call the main office (847-990-4800) that morning to report an absence. If your child has a sibling in the school, I can send home their homework with them. Please call me directly if you want to pick up homework. They may have an extension on their work for every day they are out.
