Multiple Intelligences

How are YOU smart???

☺  Howard Gardner developed the Multiple Intelligences in 1983.

☺  He states that there are 8 different types of intelligences

☺  Verbal-Linguistic -  You enjoy reading, writing, and word activities.  You are very word smart!

Logical - Mathematical - You enjoy working with numbers and solving problems.  You are "number" smart!

☺  Spatial - You can see things visually and interpret objects in your mind.  You enjoy art.

Bodily-Kinesthetic - You enjoy movement and physical activities. Hands-on activities give you the best understanding.  You are "body" smart.

Musical - You have a knack for music. You can use music to express yourself.

☺ Interpersonal - You are "people" smart.  You have an ability to read people and enjoy working with others.

☺  Intrapersonal - You are "self" smart.  You enjoy being alone and do not need to be around others often.  You prefer to work alone on certain projects.

☺  Naturalist - You are considered "nature" smart.  You enjoy the outdoors and can connect with nature in a way that others cannot.

I firmly believe that in order to completely reach ALL types of learners, I must present my lessons in many different ways.  Not all students can remember something just by reading about it in a textbook.  They may need to experience it in order to fully process the concept being taught.

Here are some ways I can present information to my students in order to facilitate effective learning:

Opportunities for oral and silent reading

Showing pictures or allowing students to draw different concepts

Applying math and reasoning to everyday topics

Allowing my students to self-reflect on lessons

Allowing for group sharing and work time

Providing  hands-on activities to make lessons "come alive"

Having new social and educational experiences outside of the classroom
