Writing

Writing is everywhere in our classroom!  It is the focus of everything we do!   We first begin by brainstorming and completing a prewriting activity.  After drafting, peer, and a teacher conference, they are then able to publish their work.  We use a rubric in class therefore the students know exactly what is expected of them.  This is beneficial to me and the student because we are able to see what where we need to focus our attention.  Along with writing narrative, expository, and persuasive essays this year, we will be working on writing across the curriculum.

Ask your child to bring home their WRITING BINDER to see what's going on!

Here are some examples of writing activities your child will engage in on a daily basis:

· math extended response - explaining how and why you got a certain answer

·

· responding to novels

·

· reading comprehension questions

·

· response to literature

·

· poetry

·

· note taking in science and social studies

· morning journal entries

·

· daily grammar review

·

· spelling sentences each week

·

· AND MUCH MORE!!!!
